Getting started
Your license key
One license runs crux on one computer. How to activate it, move it, and buy one.
A crux license is a subscription for one person on one computer at a time. The key looks like CRUX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Keep it somewhere safe: you need it to move crux to another computer.
Activate it
You can type the key in three places. Each one does the same thing.
- The crux setup file's Add your license key screen. See Install crux.
- The setup wizard's first step, License key: type the key and click Activate.
- Settings > License: type the key and activate.
When it works, the step says This computer is licensed.
No key yet
Click Buy crux on any of those screens. Pick a plan, pay on the secure payment page that opens in your browser, and crux activates this computer by itself once the payment goes through. Your new key is shown once, with Copy and I have saved it. Plans and prices are on the crux website.
Move crux to another computer
- On the old computer, open Settings > License and click Release this computer, then Release.
- On the new computer, install crux and enter the same key.
Lost or broken computer
If the old computer is gone, you cannot release it. On the new computer, open Settings > License and use Lost your computer?: give your current key and the email you bought crux with, then click Change the key and activate here. The old computer is signed out, and this one is activated with a new key.
Someone else has your key
Open Settings > License and click Rotate key, then Rotate. A new key is made, the old one stops working everywhere, and this computer is activated with the new one.
Billing
Settings > License > Update payment or plan opens your billing page in the browser, where you can change the card or the plan. See License settings for everything on that page.
