Delegation
Let up to three outside AI services do simple reading chores to save your Claude plan, and keep chosen jobs away from them.
Settings > Delegation lets Claude hand simple reading chores to another AI service you already pay for, so your Claude plan is saved for the thinking.
What delegation is
You can add up to three outside services: another AI account, or an AI server of your own. Claude can give them simple chores, such as:
- pulling text and exact quotes from pages,
- first summaries,
- reading sheet numbers and drawing notes,
- working out which sheet an addendum page replaces.
Claude still does the thinking. It decides scope, cross-checks the specs, reads a sample of the outside work itself, looks again wherever the outside answer disagrees or is unclear, and cites your original documents, never the outside service.
Nothing is sent anywhere unless a service is added and switched On. Delegation is off until you add one.
Add a service
- Open Settings > Delegation and click Add a service.
- Pick the Service type: OpenAI-compatible (most services and home servers) or Anthropic-compatible. Your provider's page says which address to use.
- Type the Address and your API key. Name is optional.
- Click Check and list models. crux lists the service's models and checks which ones answer and can read drawings.
- Leave Model on Auto: Claude chooses from models crux has checked, or pick one model.
- Choose what Claude may send (see Restricted services).
- Click Save.
Your key is protected on this computer and is never put in a backup. If you later change a service's address to a different site, type its key again.
The checks and the score
A check is a short built-in test of each model: can it read a sheet number, copy wording exactly, keep note lists apart, and so on. It costs no Claude credits.
Each model gets a score out of 100 and a suggestion (Keep, Text only, Drawings only, Consider removing or Not checked yet). The score is there to help you judge a model. It does not decide what Claude sends: that comes from which models passed their checks, your Use for ticks, and your restrictions.
Check and Recheck models test up to four models at a time (the ones you ticked or checked before). Each model also has its own Check button. If the service is busy, a model shows Couldn't check yet with the reason; that never counts against it.
Use for: Text and Drawings
Click Edit on a service. Each model has two ticks beside Use for:
- Text: reading specs and other text pages. It starts ticked when the model passes the text checks.
- Drawings & images: reading sheets and pictures. It starts ticked only when the model passes the drawing check. A model that cannot see images has this box greyed out, with the reason.
Untick both to stop using a model. Your choices are kept through Save, a restart and Recheck models.
Restricted services and jobs they must never see
Under What may Claude send here? pick:
- Unrestricted: Claude may send any simple chore.
- Restricted: write your Rules in plain words, for example "Specs and drawings are fine. Never send pricing, our estimates, or any US Government document." Claude must say why a chore fits your rules before it sends anything. If your rules say no drawings, no drawings are sent.
With Restricted you also get Never for these jobs. Tick any job this service must never see. Those jobs are blocked from it even if Claude asks to use it. A job has to be opened in crux once before you can tick it.
To stop all outside work at once, switch the service Off. Stop in a chat also stops that chat's outside work.
Where outside work shows up
In a job's chat, open Context (just above the message box). While an outside service is working for that chat, Outside models names it and how many pieces it is reading. Drawing reads also record which service read each sheet, and Claude checks a sample of them itself. Anything Claude cites still points to your own documents.
Keeping a service working
- Ping checks that the account still works.
- Recheck models checks the service's current model list and tells you what changed.
- crux pings each service that is on once when it starts.
- A service that fails is skipped until a check succeeds. Its card, and a line in the Settings menu, say what needs attention.
- Remove deletes the service and its key from this computer.
Details
The service list. Each service is a row with its name, type, an On/Off switch, the model count, its best score and Restricted or Unrestricted. Click the row to open it. A new service opens once; crux remembers which rows you opened until you close the app. Models you use get full cards, best first; N more models · Show lists the rest as small rows.
A model's card. The card shows the score, a meter, the suggestion, Text and Drawings marks, the average time per read, and the test and real-use counts. Details on the card lists each ability check and a bar of real-use results.
How the score is worked out. Until a model has done ten real pieces of work, the score is its test result. After that it is 40% test and 60% real use (Score: test only until 10 real pieces, then 60% real use). A minor slip earns half credit. Skipped items and checks that could not finish do not lower the score. Real use keeps the newest 50 pieces per model: clean, flagged, cut off or failed, plus average seconds. It records no document content, file locations or keys. Below 40 the suggestion is Consider removing.
Sees images and Numbers notes. Sees images: Yes means the model passed the built-in sheet-number or separate-lists check. Numbers notes shows whether it kept numbered note lists apart. Approvals from before the harder drawing check need Recheck models.
Temperature. Under Advanced each model has an optional Temperature (0 to 2, in steps of 0.1). Blank uses the model's own default. Anthropic-compatible services accept 0 to 1; higher values are lowered when sent. Leave it blank unless your provider recommends a value.
Sheet reads in the chat. A sheet read warns when a number is missing or differs from the title block. An answer that gets cut off is tried again and marked incomplete if it still cannot finish. Numbered notes an outside model read are kept with the sheet read so Claude can check them before citing.
