How to

Citations and the Citation Peek

Every fact crux writes says where it came from. Click a citation to see the page.

crux cites every fact it writes: the spec section, the drawing sheet, the addendum or the bid form it came from. Citations show as small pills in the chat, in the Binder and on the Project tab, for example "Section 09 91 23, 1.2" or "A-101".

Open a citation

Click the pill. The Citation Peek opens beside what you are reading, with the cited page and the cited words boxed. A spec opens on the cited words in their paragraph, readable; a drawing opens fitted to the window.

In the Peek:

  • Zoom to cited (or double-click the page) zooms to the boxed words. Fit shows the whole page. Zoom in and Zoom out do the rest.
  • ‹ Prev and Next › move through the document's pages; Back to cited page returns. Show pages lists the pages to jump to.
  • Show page text shows the cited words on the page as text.
  • Pop out opens the whole document in its own window, on this page.
  • Close Citation Peek (or Esc) closes it.

What the notes mean

NoteMeans
This file changed after crux indexed itThe page may not match the citation. Ask crux to re-index the documents.
crux could not find the cited words in this page's textCheck the page yourself.
This page has no indexed text (a drawing or a scan)Normal for drawings and scans; the box shows the area.
Sheet number unconfirmedThe sheet number was read from the title block but not confirmed by the sheet index. Check the title block.
A dashed pillA citation crux could not fully confirm.

When a citation does not open

If the job's documents are not indexed yet, the Peek offers Index now. It reads the job's specs, addenda and drawings into crux so citations open. It changes none of your files and nothing in the binder.

Lines without a citation

In the Binder, a line you added to a cited section without a source is marked Unchecked. It stays as you wrote it. Fix in chat asks crux to find each one in the documents and add its citation, or mark it as an RFI or an unknown. See Edit the binder.

Good to know: Citations always point to the original documents, never to the conformed set.
