Backup
Keep a copy of your crux data somewhere safe, put it back, or share your company profile with a coworker.
Settings > Backup keeps a copy of your crux data somewhere safe, puts it back, and shares your company profile with a coworker.
A backup is one file, locked with a password you choose. It always holds your company details and logo, labor rate sets, material prices, production rates, estimate and proposal templates, company knowledge and app settings, along with your bid log and call log. You can also include your chat history and the notes and memory from your jobs.
Careful: crux cannot recover a backup's password. Keep it somewhere safe.
Never in the file: your crux license, this computer's key, your Claude Code sign-in, passwords to other services, or crux's logs. Your bid folders are your own files; back them up the way you already do.
Back up now
- Tick what else to include.
- Save to: click Choose folder…. Pick a place off this computer, such as OneDrive or a USB drive.
- Choose a password for the file and type it again.
- Click Back up now. crux gathers your data and locks the file with your password, then Show in folder shows where it is.
Automatic backup
crux makes a backup on its own, quietly, when it is not in the middle of writing.
- How often: Off, Every day or Every week.
- Save to: a folder that is copied off this computer, such as OneDrive.
- Keep the last N backups. Older automatic ones are deleted; ones you make yourself are never touched.
- Also include: chat history, notes and memory.
- Password for automatic backups: set it once with Save password. crux keeps it locked to your Windows account so it can back up on its own; you need it to restore one. Change password sets a new one.
Restore from backup
Put this computer back the way a backup file has it.
- Click Restore from backup… and choose the file.
- Type The backup’s password.
- crux shows What changes: each part, Now and After the restore. Everything listed is replaced by what the backup holds.
- Click Restore and restart crux. crux first saves a copy of how things are now (with the same password), then restarts to finish. Your license and Claude Code sign-in stay as they are.
Company profile
Give a coworker your company's details, logo, rates, material prices, templates and company knowledge in one file. Your own name and contact details, sign-ins, license, chats and notes never go in it.
- Share company profile…: choose a password and save the file. Send the file and the password separately: for example the file by email and the password by phone.
- Update from company profile…: when your estimator sends a newer company profile, see what changed before you take it.
See Your company profile.
