Getting started

Claude Code and your sign-in

crux works through Claude Code with your own Claude subscription. How to install it and sign in.

crux does its thinking through Claude Code, the official Claude app for your computer, signed in with your own Claude account and subscription. crux adds the estimating tools and the screens; Claude Code does the reading and writing. crux never sees your Claude password.

Install and sign in (setup wizard, step 2)

  1. In the setup wizard, step Claude Code checks whether Claude Code is on this computer.
  2. If it is not, click Install Claude Code. crux opens the official installer in a window. Let it finish.
  3. Click Sign in to Claude Code. A window opens and then your browser. Sign in with your own Claude account and approve.
  4. Come back to crux. The step shows Claude Code is ready (signed in as your email) when it is done. It checks by itself every few seconds.

Note: If Claude Code is only on this computer as part of another program, the step may offer Install Claude Code’s own copy so it keeps itself up to date. This is fine to accept. crux never changes Claude Code itself.

Check or change the sign-in later

Open Settings > Connections & setup > Claude Code sign-in.

  • It shows signed in as your email, or signed out.
  • Sign in and Sign out open a small console window where you finish with your own account. crux only reads the result.

You can also type /login or /logout in the chat box.

If you are signed out

  • The chat header shows Signed out with a Sign in button. Click it and finish in the window that opens.
  • The status line at the bottom of Chat may say Claude Code not found: install it, then restart crux. Open the setup wizard again from Settings > Connections & setup > Setup checklist > Open the setup wizard and redo the Claude Code step.

Your plan's limits

Claude plans have usage limits. See how close you are on the AI Center tab, or in the chat's Context panel. When a limit is reached, chats wait until it resets.
