How to

Edit the binder

Change a binder document in place. Nothing you write is lost, and every version is kept.

You can change any binder document right on the page in the Binder tab. crux keeps every version, and never overwrites your lines with its own.

Edit and save

  1. Open the document and click Edit.
  2. Type on the page. Right-click for the Format menu: bold, italic, strikethrough, highlight, headings, paragraph, bullet list, checklist item, code, and clear formatting. Pasting brings in plain text.
  3. Click Done, or press Ctrl+S. crux says Saved. Undo puts the earlier version back.

Only the parts you changed are rewritten. Everything else in the file stays exactly as it was.

  • Checkboxes save the moment you tick them, without Edit.
  • Leaving with unsaved changes asks: Save, Discard, or Keep editing. A draft also survives switching tabs or jobs until you save or discard it (Your unsaved changes from before are still here.).

Undo and versions

  • Undo puts the earlier version back, one save at a time.
  • Versions lists every version kept: yours, crux's updates, changes made outside the Binder, and the version before the first edit here. Pick one and click Restore. A restore is itself a version, so it can be undone.

When someone else changed it too

  • crux or a coworker saved while you were editing: your changes are kept. Save merges the two. Any line you both changed is shown under Changes to pick from: Keep mine, or Use crux's (or Use the other).
  • The file was changed outside the Binder (another program, or a coworker on the share): crux notices once and keeps the earlier version in Versions.
  • crux updates a document you edited: crux keeps your lines. Where you both changed the same part, your version stays in the document and crux's is offered for you to pick.

Lines without a source

A line you add to a cited section without a citation is marked Unchecked (an amber edge). It stays exactly as you wrote it. Fix in chat asks crux to find each one in the job's documents and add its citation, or mark it as an RFI or an unknown, keeping your wording.

Documents you cannot edit here

Some files are what crux computes from. They say where to change them instead: the project facts (on the Project tab or in chat), the citation ledgers (in chat), and anything your pack locks. A document over 2 MB can be changed through crux in chat. A binder kept outside the job folder is read-only until crux moves it into the job.

If a save fails

The bar says Not saved: and the reason. Your draft is kept. See Troubleshooting.
