Onboard a GC bid

Onboard a GC bid. crux reads every trade's documents, settles the contract structure and writes the binder.

Onboarding is the first step of every GC bid. A GC bids the whole job, so crux reads every trade, not one: every spec section, drawing, addendum, bid form and owner Q&A in the job's folder. The latest addendum governs.

Start it

  1. Put the bid documents in one folder (subfolders are fine). See Onboard a bid for the folder itself.
  2. In a chat, say "onboard this bid" and give the folder, or start from the job on the Bid Board.
  3. Within a minute crux gives you the quick facts (bid due, submit to, owner, architect) and its first question. Reading the whole set runs in the background; the Project tab shows its progress.

Your source files are read in place. Nothing is copied, moved or changed.

What crux asks you

  • Single prime or multi-prime. crux reads the documents for it (MEP let as separate prime contracts, or MEP in the GC's contract) and asks you to confirm. It never assumes multi-prime from a drawing or single-prime from silence.
  • Anything the documents do not settle. Questions only the owner or architect can answer become RFIs in the binder's RFI Log.

What it writes

In the job's Binder:

DocumentWhat it holds
Executive summaryThe bid card first (bid due, submit to, bid security, addenda to acknowledge, site walk, RFI deadline), then a 12-part cited analysis: overview, contract structure, schedule, logistics, submittals, building and sitework scope, drawing guide, risks, addenda log, geotech, document control.
RFI LogEvery question for the owner or architect, cited, plus the code and constructability review.
Specialty Procurement ListThe specialty items and long-lead buys the job needs, with their spec sections.
ITB ChecklistEvery trade package to invite, and who you invited and when.

Behind them, in the job's crux folder: the reconciled project facts, the change log (what each addendum changed), the scope checklist that scope letters and leveling both use, and the diary that lets the next chat pick up where you left off.

The bid card is checked against the facts before onboarding counts as done, so a date an addendum moved never reaches the bid form.

After onboarding

  • Not sure you want the job? Ask for a go/no-go: a fatal-flaw scan, then a 100-point scorecard against your company's own fits.
  • Otherwise the usual next steps are the RFIs, general conditions, the wage regime, then scope letters.
  • A new addendum: drop it in the folder and say "addendum 3 is in". crux reads it, updates the facts, the bid card, the RFI Log, the ITB Checklist and the procurement list, and tells you what changed. See Addenda.
