Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

Fix it, updates, network drives, "Not saved" messages, and getting help from crux support.

Most problems fix themselves: crux watches its own parts and restarts anything that stops. When it cannot, it tells you in plain words and gives you one button to press.

The Fix it button

The bottom line of the Chat tab shows one dot and one sentence about crux itself.

You seeMeans
Everything's running (green)All good.
Starting up… or Restarting … (amber)Wait a few seconds.
… keeps stopping. Click Fix it, or send diagnostics. (red)One of crux's parts keeps stopping.
Part of crux is missing … Reinstall crux. (red)A program file is gone, often removed by antivirus software. Reinstall crux; your data is kept.
A sign-in, disk or license problem (red)The sentence says which.

Fix it restarts crux's own tools, restarts any background reading or writing that was stuck, and checks everything again. It is safe to press any time; nothing you saved is lost. It says Fixing things… while it works.

Send diagnostics saves a diagnostics file with passwords and private details removed, and opens its folder. Attach it if crux support asks for it.

Updates

  • The update does not install: updates install when you quit crux. Quit it from the tray too, or click Restart now in Settings > Updates.
  • The download fails: check the internet connection and click Try again. Company networks that block downloads may need the IT person to allow cruxai.bid.
  • It says to sort out the license: click Open License. See License settings.
  • It keeps failing: click Report to crux support on the Updates page. crux writes the report; you check it and send it.

Network drives

crux works with jobs on a company network drive (a shared drive).

  • One drive, several names: if the same job shows up twice (once by the server's name, once by its drive letter), list the drive's names in Settings > Shared drives.
  • The drive is not reachable (for example off the VPN): crux lists those jobs as offline and does not wait on them. Reconnect, then come back to the job.
  • Someone has this job open: when a coworker has the same job open, the Project tab names them. If they hold the job, crux holds your estimate, takeoff and binder saves so you do not overwrite their work. Click Wait to wait until they close it, or Take over.
  • Converting a job from an older tool on a network drive works only when your pack allows it. See Convert a job.

"Not saved" messages

crux never loses what you typed. When a save cannot happen, it says so and keeps your work on the screen.

  • Binder: "Not saved:" and a reason. Your draft is kept. The usual reasons: a coworker holds the job (see above), or the file is open and locked in another program. Close it, then save again.
  • Company: "Changes not saved yet." You have not clicked Save yet.
  • Rates: "Nothing was saved." You closed the review without saving. Your rates are as they were.
  • Estimate adjust: nothing changed. The workbook is open in Excel. Close it and save again.
  • "The document changed since you started." Someone else saved too. Click Save: crux merges both, and asks you to pick where you both changed the same line. See Edit the binder.

Other common problems

  • Typing in Chat does nothing: pick a project folder in the sidebar (or No project (general chat)), then send again.
  • Chat says Signed out: click Sign in. See Claude Code and your sign-in.
  • A citation does not open: click Index now in the Citation Peek. See Citations.
  • The Bid Board is empty: connect email and calendar, then Sync now. Check the event names: see The Bid Board and your calendar.
  • The screen flickers while crux reads a job: turn off Use the graphics card to speed up indexing in Connections & setup.
  • The computer feels slow: lower Concurrent chats in Connections & setup, and close chats you are not using.
  • Chats wait and do not answer: you may have reached your Claude plan's limit. See AI Center.
