How to

Questions and RFIs

How to answer crux's questions about a job, and how RFIs are drafted for you to send.

crux never fills a gap with a guess. When the documents do not settle something that changes the price or the go/no-go, crux asks you. When nobody at your company can answer it, it becomes an RFI to the GC or the customer.

Answer crux's questions

Questions show on the Project tab under Needs you, one at a time, and a smaller card beside the chat. The number on the Project tab counts the ones waiting. Each question says why it matters and where it comes from (click the citation to see the page).

Your choices:

ButtonWhat happens
A quick answerClick the answer that fits.
Or type your own answerType it and save. For a height, type it like 8'-6".
Use suggestedThe answer is crux's suggestion, as if you had typed it.
Skipcrux uses its suggestion and marks it as an ASSUMPTION on the job. With no suggestion, the question is kept on file, flagged.
Ask me at takeoffShown instead of Skip for wall heights: no height is assumed; crux asks again when it measures.
Make it an RFIAdds it to the RFI Log as a draft; nothing is sent.
Bid without itcrux leaves it out of the price and lists it as an exclusion on the proposal, with its citation.

After you answer:

  • Remember for next time saves the answer as a company standard, when it can be one. crux then uses it on future jobs (you see "From your standards").
  • Change reopens the question.
  • If two answers disagree, crux uses neither until you pick one (Conflict). If a newer document touches an answer, it asks you to Re-confirm.

When every question is answered, the card says so, and Answered questions lists them.

RFIs

  • crux keeps the job's RFI Log in the Binder. The Open RFIs card on the Project tab lists the open ones; View the RFI log opens it.
  • Ask crux in chat to "draft the RFIs": it finds what a sub should ask before bid, filters out what the documents already answer, and drafts each one addressed to the GC or customer, with a verified citation.
  • RFI letters appear under Drafts crux produced on the Project tab. You review and send them; crux never sends anything.

Answer an RFI you received

Use the Answer this RFI quick action in a new chat and paste the RFI. crux drafts a cited reply for you to review before it goes out.
